The Annual Asylum Awards Spring Survey has begun!​

In order to ensure that this year’s Asylum Awards has the categories and nominees that you all want, we have decided to conduct two surveys, one in spring and another in fall. Not only will this ensure that the awards aren’t just our personal favorites and our guesses at what everyone else likes, but holding a survey at two different times of the year will prevent us from having too much of an end of year bias and keep older events fresh in our mind. The two biggest controversies of 2024 are definitely MikeMafu and Selen's termination so far. The collapse of vreverie or Serafi's termination really can't compare.

Maybe add saddest moment of the year? That would go to Mel's termination for me.

I'd say a black company of the year award is necessary with the sheer number of them we've had lately...but I guess not since it's an obvious sweep.

So, what were your favorite events of this year so for?
Cop-out answer, but 5th fes and fes as a whole is always a highlight. But besides that, reincarnation. (I'm guessing this still counts)

Goth Fauna, Shiori and Nerissa's New Year Costumes, Metamorphosis YabaIRyS, and Watame's second-to-last outfit.
Favorite songs, both originals and covers?
Okayu's Neko Kaburi-Na, Watame's What an amazing swing, and GuraMarine's SHINKIRO.
Have any new and/or small talents left a good impression on you?
Tomoe Umari, S.S. Isa, and Clio Aite
What controversies stood out to you?
Kurosanji, all of it.
What new categories would you like to see?
Most Entertaining Game?

I think hololive should be banned from the award as they really dont need it. I dont think any holofag on the forum would be against it as we all know hololive's worth. I would not exclude holostars though. Giving a chance to smaller vtubers for more discoverability would feel more rewarding to them.

Did we have a " best debut stream " or simply " best newcomer " for the last award? Something like that would be great.

A new meta category/categories for the users of the asylum: Best shitposter, inmate of the year, etc.

I don't remember any of them, probably the ones with indies which most people didn't vote on because they knew none of 'em.

What other suggestions do you have to improve this year’s awards?

Awards are gay as fuck.

• Mumei's emo outfit
• Original song: RxRxR or La Roja (kinda too soon for this one imo). Cover: Mind Craft by HoloEN

• Doki debacle
• Best EP/Album release. Best new VTuber-related game release. Best fanart piece. Most creative stream.
• The black company one is pointless unless Nijisanji is excluded because they are the only real choice. I think best corpo company or Indie are "whatever" categories unless we exclude previous winners.
• Find something we can vote with that isn't google docs. For outfits, songs, etc, linking to them would be good for voting purposes. Split Holo to its own category for music originals and covers (stick Niji with them if you want). Their musical and MV output is so high and they are allowed much higher production value, I don't think that it is fair to Phase or Idol or other smaller corpos.

So, what were your favorite events of this year so for?

Obviously HoloFes was a huge success. There's nothing else really big enough worth mentioning so far.

Favorite new costumes?

Shiina's crab outfit is a huge improvement, definitely leans more into her memes and you no longer have to look at a borderline loli in a skimpy outfit.
Emo Mumei was also really good.

Favorite songs, both originals and covers?

Moona's Taut Hati was a very notable deviation from her normal music but was very adorable

Have any new and/or small talents left a good impression on you?

Is this purely newcomers or does it include reincarnations? Because as someone that never followed the Beryl shit, Clara has been fantastic. If I were to be limited to purely newcomers, I couldn't think of any so far.

What controversies stood out to you?

The Selen Termination is on everyone's mind but the ongoing Raziel/Luca shitshow is definitely worth including as its an entirely different controversy but really massive as it shows a talent having pretty much all their work done by a janny and that janny signing merch, essentially defrauding their fans

What new categories would you like to see?

Maybe 1-2 categories for Best Stream? Like Best Stream and Best Collab stream to split it up? Maybe split newcomer between corpo and indie categories?

Which old categories do you feel won’t be needed this year?

Honestly can't really think of one

What other suggestions do you have to improve this year’s awards?

It may seem like flooding but potentially have mini-threads to vote for each award as a lot of people aren't going to vote using Google. Don't even have to have discussion on for those mini-threads, just make them have the OP so people can vote here.

Emo Mumei and Goth Fauna were both good. Ina's new one is nice too.

Okayu's "Neko Kaburi-Na" is my favorite original so far this year. It might be because I just heard it this morning, but I'll pick Luna's cover of "World is Mine" for best cover.

Hololive hasn't debuted any new members lately, so no.

What controversies stood out to you?

Nijisanji turning into a dumpster fire has overshadowed anything else.

What new categories would you like to see?

Best collaboration might be a good category.

Which old categories do you feel won’t be needed this year?

We can stop voting for most menhera. No one is ever going to out-crazy the queen. Just give Mikeneko a lifetime achievement award already and be done with it.

What other suggestions do you have to improve this year’s awards?

I will continue to not participate if voting requires a Google account. That said, I don't really mind if I get to vote or not. I can just post my choices in the discussion thread.

I don't want black company to go away but I think Kurosanji should have their own automatic win and dishonorable mention, and the voting should be for second place

For this year I think there should be a "no vote" option for each of the categories. Last year I voted for lots of things I had no clue about. If not I submit that a contest be held where someone gets to write an award about some obscure thing they like and everyone has to vote.

- New category proposal -
"Deck chairs on the Titanic" award. This is for a vtuber company, talent, community, etc. who are trying to solve an issue but are comicly ineffective. Examples would be

• Sony shutting down Prism and Verse effectively wasting everyone's time
• Mikeneko bringing back Nazuna and opening up a Billibilli account
• Niji reviving the AR live but it looks botched
• vReverie pumping out more talent after they have already imploded
